ADMtek Licenses ARM Cores for Networking Applications

TAIPEI, Taiwan and CAMBRIDGE, England, May 9 /PRNewswire/ -- ADMtek Incorporated and ARM [(LSE: ARM); (Nasdaq: ARMHY)], the industry's leading provider of 16/32-bit embedded RISC processor solutions, today announced that ADMtek has licensed the ARM7TDMI® and ARM922T(TM) cores for use in their next-generation ASIC solutions for networking applications such as routers and home gateways. ADMtek supplies communications chips to a wide variety of OEMs and ODMs (original design manufacturers), including 3Com, Accton, D-Link and Linksys.

``As market demand for ARM Powered(TM) system-on-chip solutions continues to grow, it is key for Original Design Manufacturers to have access to ARM® technology,'' said Reynette Au, vice president of Corporate Marketing for ARM. ``ARM's Foundry Program for fabless semiconductor companies demonstrates our commitment to serving the needs of leading-edge networking ASIC suppliers, such as ADMtek, who can satisfy this demand. ADMtek's advanced SoC solutions will help drive adoption of ARM technology throughout Taiwan.''

ADMtek has augmented its portfolio of SoC building blocks with key interfaces and networking components including Fast Ethernet MAC and PHY, Gigabit MAC, HomePNA PHY, Cardbus, USB and PCI. By adding the ARM cores to its product portfolio, ADMtek will offer intelligence in products targeting the rapidly growing SOHO (small office/home office), voice/data and broadband access markets. ADMtek's first ARM Powered devices will be available Q2 2001.

``ARM's embedded technology is rapidly proving itself in today's explosive growth networking industry, from high-speed access devices to central infrastructure products,'' said Chun-Tsung Lee, executive vice president for ADMtek. ``We are driving our roadmap to encompass all convergence technologies; ARM's wide deployment in datacom, telecom, wired and wireless applications will enable ADMtek to provide intelligent, high-performance and cost-effective solutions for the residential/SoHo/enterprise markets. Our customers will be able to design cutting edge system solutions, with the advantages of ARM's industry-leading embedded processor cores.''

ARM Processors for Networking

ARM Partners ship ARM core-based processors ranging in performance from 60 MHz (54 MIPS) to 1 GHz (1200+ MIPS). The cores are noted for performance, small die size, low-power consumption, high-code density and multiple supply sources. Instruction set compatibility between processor families promotes design reuse and reduces software development time.

ARM offers full SoC solutions including processor cores, peripheral intellectual property, development tools, application software, EDA tools and design services. The ARM architecture is well supported by semiconductor and system manufacturers, real-time operating system providers, third-party tool chain developers, application software providers and ARM design centers.
